Improve your Hotspot experience

Volcano Internet Provider continues to bring a better wireless experience to more customers as we build an all-new Hotspot service.

Volcano Broadband users can connect to any Volcano Hotspot FREE of charge! If you are not a Volcano Internet subscriber,  you can pay-as-you-go with reasonable daily, weekly or monthly rate packages and connect to any Volcano Internet Wi-Fi Hotspot located in Amador and Calaveras counties.


The first time you use one of Volcano’s new hotspots you will need to create an account.

Get close enough to the hotspot to see “Volcano – VIP…” in your available wireless connections and select it.  You will see a login screen open like the one shown below.  If you don’t, then open your browser and try surfing to http://www.volcano.net which should then bring up the login screen.  Then select “Create Account.”  Please be aware that navigating through the following screens may take as long as 30 seconds each.

You will be prompted to fill out 4 fields – a contact email address (doesn’t have to be a volcano.net address), a username of your choice (as long as it’s not already in use by someone else), and a case-sensitive password that must be at least 8 characters in length.  Then verify your chosen password and select “Proceed.”

Please note:  An error message will occur if  1) you choose a username that already exists,  2) the information in the “password” and “verify password” fields don’t match,  or  3) you choose a password that is not at least 8 characters in length:

When your account has been created you will see a confirmation message like the one below:

You will also be prompted to either choose a package or log in as a current Volcano broadband subscriber.  Select whichever applies and then select “Proceed.”

If you are a current Volcano broadband subscriber you will be prompted for your phone number/account number and the last name that appears on your account.  If you have phone service with Volcano then your phone number is your account number (without spaces, dashes or parentheses).  Cable modem subscribers’ account numbers begin with ‘002…’ and fixed wireless customers’ account numbers begin with ‘001…” and this number can be viewed on your monthly bill.  The last name needs to match your billing statement exactly.  It is everything that appears before the comma or everything after the first space if there is no comma (see below).  Select “Verify” when ready to proceed.

If you are not a current Volcano broadband customer you will be prompted to select a package of either a day, a week, or a month.  Highlight your choice and then select “Proceed.”  You will then be prompted for payment information.  When completed, select “Pay” at the bottom:

Next, you will be prompted to Authorize the device that you’re using.  Select “Yes” here (selecting “No” will not allow you connect  to the internet).

Once your device is authorized (up to 3 devices per account, in most cases), you can immediately use the internet by selecting “Go Online.”  You will also see “Manage Account” and “Logout.”

Selecting “Manage Account” will let you see and make changes to your hotspot account if you desire.  You will also see the MAC addresses of any devices that are authorized for your account (each device has its own unique identifier called a MAC address).
