Your Volcano Communications Group's Services And PGE Public Safety Power Shut-Off (PSPS)

Resize

During this California wildfire season, PGE has been shutting off power to most high-risk areas in Northern California. Here in Amador and Calaveras counties, we are currently experiencing such an outage. Volcano Communication Group’s services (Telephone, Internet and TV) require electricity to operate.

So, when the grid is shut down, the company endeavors to generate its own electricity to keep those services operational. We do that by powering our electronics in the field using generators and battery back-ups.

In Volcano Telephone Company service areas, we power the local landline telephone service and DSL internet service. Your telephone service is available for 911 and other communication. Make sure you have a corded phone (much like the trimline phone in the photo) available and plugged in to a live telephone jack. Your internet service will be available if you have a generator or some other means to power the modem and any internet-enabled electronics you may have. Keeping the telephone system active is our top priority.

Cable TV currently operates largely on a separate network, some portions of which are backed up by generators, but some are not. Unfortunately, depending on the size of the outages, there may be many more TV areas out of PGE power than we have generators to cover.

Outside of the Telephone Company territory where we provide only internet and TV services, and are less prone to PSPS, we endeavor to keep those services available as long as possible, but are unable to maintain service for prolonged periods in some locations.

For those of you who have lost service, we apologize for the inconveniences, but please be aware that we are doing everything in our power, with the resources we have available, to restore services as quickly as possible. We will continue to look for ways to reduce down time with the expectation that the PSPS program will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.

We thank you for your patience and your continued understanding.
