Channel Lineup Update: What’s Changing and Why

Channel Lineup Update: What’s Changing and Why

At Volcano Communications, we’re always working to provide the best possible service at a fair price. As part of our efforts to rebalance programming costs, we’ll be making adjustments to our TV channel lineup. This includes the removal of select channels and an updated pricing structure that reflects those changes.

We understand how important it is to stay informed, and we’re here to walk you through what’s changing — and what your options are going forward.

Why are Changes Being Made?

Programming costs from TV networks continue to rise, with some requiring providers like us to carry large bundles of channels — even if only a few are actually watched. To keep your monthly TV bill affordable, we’ve chosen to remove certain high-cost channels rather than pass those expenses on to you.

For example, one programmer charges $21.13 per month — accounting for 17.5% of our total programming costs — but their channels make up only 6.7% of viewer watch time. Our goal is to provide quality service without compromising value, and this change helps us stay true to that commitment.

Check out TV on my Side for a more in depth discussion of why TV rates have been on the rise.

What are my Options?

Can I customize my channel lineup?
Unfortunately, no. Networks typically require us to carry all or none of their channels, so we can’t offer à la carte choices at this time.

Are there alternatives to get the channels I want?
Absolutely! There are several popular streaming services that offer a wide variety of channels — including many of the ones being removed — as well as live local TV.

Options include:

  • Sling TV
  • Hulu + Live TV
  • Philo
  • YouTube TV
  • And more!

  • Amazon Fire TV Stick (used with our streaming service)
