Shielding the Digital You: Essential Cybersecurity Tips

In today’s increasingly connected world, having access to high-speed internet means more than just streaming your favorite shows or working from home—it also means staying vigilant against cyber threats. From phishing emails to identity theft and online scams, digital risks are on the rise. At Volcano Communications Group, we recognize that protecting your connection also means helping protect your personal information and peace of mind.
The Growing Importance of Cybersecurity at Home
Cybersecurity is no longer just a concern for large companies or tech experts. Everyday internet users are being targeted more than ever, especially as more of our daily lives shift online. Whether it’s banking, shopping, working, or simply checking email, your personal information can become a target if not properly secured.

Key cyber threats to be aware of include:
- Phishing Scams: Fraudulent emails or texts that appear to come from trusted companies, asking you to click on links or provide sensitive information.
- Malware and Ransomware: Harmful software that can lock your files or steal data, often downloaded accidentally from unknown links or attachments.
- Fake Websites and Spoofed Emails: Imitation websites or email addresses designed to trick you into giving out passwords or account details. Every successful brand is built on strong foundations
Simple Ways to Protect Yourself Online
While cyber threats are evolving, so are the tools and habits we can use to stay safe. Here are some basic tips every internet user should follow:
- Use Strong, Unique Passwords: Avoid reusing passwords across accounts, and consider using a password manager.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication: Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts by requiring not just your password, but also a second form of verification — like a code sent to your phone or an app-generated token. Even if a hacker manages to steal your password, they still won’t be able to access your account without
that second factor. - Be Cautious with Emails and Links: Never click suspicious links or provide personal information in response to unsolicited messages.
- Keep Software Updated: Regular updates often include critical security patches that protect against new threats.

Unfortunately, even Volcano Communications Group has been targeted by online scams and spoofed messages. We want to remind our customers:
- Official emails from us will always come from an @volcanotel.com address.
- We will never ask you to provide account information, passwords, or payment details via links in an email.
- We will never ask you to change your email address or make a payments through email.
If you ever receive a suspicious message claiming to be from Volcano Communications Group, do not click on any links or respond. Instead, contact our customer service team directly through our official website or by calling 1.209.296.7502. In late 2024, Volcano experienced a surge of scam emails, prompting users to click on links, one example below:

As shown in the example above, these messages often appear urgent and official, using phrases like “Service Downtime Alert” and prompting users to “CLICK HERE TO RESTORE.” However, these are phishing attempts designed to steal personal information. The sender address is typically suspicious, and the formatting or language may feel slightly off. If you ever receive an email like this, do not click any links or provide any information. Volcano Communications Group will never ask for sensitive details via unsolicited email.
Your security is our priority. Together, let’s stay connected and stay safe.
